UnCover video: They're back! Green and golden bell frogs return to the ACT

They’re back! The iconic call of the green and golden bell frog has been absent in the bush capital for almost 50 years – until now.

Native green and golden bell frogs haven’t been seen in the ACT since the 1980s, victims of the deadly chytrid fungus that has driven many amphibians to extinction globally – but now they’ve returned, thanks to a wonderful project led by the Â鶹´«Ã½ and funded by the Australian Research Council.

Associate Professor Simon Clulow and Professor Richard Duncan from the Faculty of Science and Technology’s Centre for Conservation Ecology and Genomics (CCEG) and Senior Lecturer Ben Scheele from the Australian National University (ANU) are leading the four-year project to address the effects of chytrid.

Check out our video to find out how they did it – capturing the hearts of scientists and community members alike – and what it means for one of the most serious worldwide problems facing amphibians today.
